This week’s beauty drop arrives courtesy of Clarins. Yup, that Clarins your mum and aunties use. Which is why it has come as a surprise that the brand decided to launch a vegan-friendly skincare range for young adults. Enter: My Clarins. I was fortunate enough to have attended the press preview, so here’s everything you need to know.
It has sustainability in mind
One of the first things I asked when I arrived and saw the range was, “are these containers recyclable?” Well, you’ll be pleased to know that they are. Each container is made recycled material sourced from sustainably managed forests, while the mask and hydrating creams come packaged in a glass container so can be recycled or reused.
It is cruelty-free and vegan-friendly
This is obviously a massive selling point, what with veganism on the rise. But this is a huge deal for Clarins, which has never created a vegan-friendly range before. Also, the skincare house isn’t retailing in areas of the world where testing on animals is permitted, meaning some of the biggest markets in the world, such as China, won’t be able to buy them. As well as the products being vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, all nine products are infused with 88 per cent natural ingredients, including fruits, floral waters and plant extracts.
It is great for all skin types
While this is targeted at young skin (18-25 demographic) that doesn’t mean teenagers can’t reap all the benefits. The range’s formulas blend plant-based ingredients to promote detoxification and de-pollution, featuring coconut water which optimises cell nutrition to provide skin with healthy nutrients and stimulate cellular energy, whilst alpenrose protects the skin against oxidative stress and promotes the removal of impurities and drains toxins from the pores.
It’s about time a large skincare house stepped up to provide a range for young skin. While it wouldn’t necessarily be healthy to promote young adults into worrying about anti-ageing just yet, these formulas are gentle enough to tackle issues such as acne, dehydration and oilyness that is prevalent in the formative years.
I’m really impressed by the price points. Each product is reasonably priced with young adults in mind (especially uni students, hello student loan) because let’s be real, who at 21 could afford a £75 night cream? Not me! Also, if you’re too broke to buy Benefit’s Porefessional Face Primer (£28), or Milk Makeup’s Blur Stick (£30.50), then the My Clarins PORE-LESS Blur and Matte Stick (£15) is half the price, will save you pennies and it smells like strawberry.
At first, I did think the packaging/branding looked a bit like Drunk Elephant. Although isn’t as expensive. The only glaring thing missing from this line - which I thought would have been vital for young adults - was an SPF but hopefully that’s next on the agenda…ahem.
